Organizing Myths
As organizers, no two are alike. We all share common goals in organizing, but we can operate differently at times. With this, some common misconceptions or myths may arise. Let me address a few myths and clarify my stance on them.
Myth: A professional organizer will make me throw or donate all my belongings
False: Breakaway Organizing will help you declutter by donating or discarding items. You will never be forced to throw away your belongings.
Myth: A professional organizer will only work with hoarders or the wealthy.
False: Breakaway Organizing collaborates with and supports individuals from all walks of life.
Myth: A professional organizer will judge you and your space.
False: Breakaway Organizing never judges—our goal is to assist you!
Myth: Once a professional organizer is done, the area will stay organized forever.
True and False: If you, the client, can continue maintaining the area, it will thrive. Sometimes, the organizer will return to touch up what is needed at the client's request.
Myth: Professional Organizers are also cleaners.
True and False: Organizers generally do not perform cleaning tasks. While we may wipe down the organizing area, we are not professional cleaners.
Myth: You have to buy expensive bins.
False: Breakaway Organizing will work within your budget and help you select any bins you prefer.
Myth: You need to buy bins before you start organizing.
False: To determine which bins you might need, it's best to declutter and organize first.
Myth: Your home is cluttered due to laziness or too much stuff.
False: Every individual is different, and for some, clutter results from anxiety, feeling overwhelmed, life changes, shifting priorities, and more.
Myth: Being organized takes too much time and effort.
False: When you recognize an area of stress, you can choose how much time and effort you want to invest in it. Some people are ambitious and may tackle it all in a day, while others prefer to break it down into smaller, more manageable tasks.
Organizing doesn't have to be complicated or time-consuming. It is not judgmental but rather helpful. When you invite an organizer into your home, we are there to support you and work collaboratively with you.
