Organization Roadblocks

You have decided to organize on your own! Fantastic!

But wait!! As an ambitious go-getter myself, I know all too well the roadblocks that deter or even entirely stop us from achieving our organizing goals.

Let's review these roadblocks and how you can avoid them when organizing!

Roadblock #1: Where do I start?

Keep in mind that there is no perfect place to start. I always recommend starting with an area that gives you the most trouble.

Roadblock #2: Doing it all

Organizing does not always happen quickly! My clients and I work for anywhere from 1 to 3 hours, but for some, even that can feel like too much. Start by setting a timer for 20 to 30 minutes and tackling a small area.

Roadblock #3: Expensive Task

Organizing doesn’t have to be expensive. I always suggest repurposing what you already have first! Wait to purchase anything until you know what you need.

Roadblock #4: Perfection

Organizing is a marathon, not a sprint. Organizing can take time to reach the point of perfection. There are times when you organize an area only to reorganize it later.

Roadblock #5: You don't have time

You do want to organize! Remember why you began this journey: you're tired of not being able to find things, and that stress can be overwhelming. While starting to organize may seem daunting, the end goal makes it all worthwhile. If you don’t have 30 minutes to dedicate to an area, try spending just 10 minutes instead!

Roadblock #6: Others will ruin it!

This can be especially relevant if you have a roommate, spouse, or children. It’s a great opportunity to sit down and discuss your organizing goals with them. They may struggle with staying organized initially, but with time, organization can be achieved.
